Man wanted for Mount Vernon burglary
MOUNT VERNON—An arrest warrant was issued last week for a Sioux Falls man who allegedly broke into a Mount Vernon home and took a safe in December.
According to court documents, a warrant for Justin Hazen, 39, was issued Jan. 3 for reportedly breaking into a couple's residence and taking a safe that contained personal and business documents and savings bonds on Dec. 12.
Second-degree burglary is similar to first-degree burglary in that both charges involve entering an occupied structure with the intent to commit a crime. Someone can be charged with first-degree burglary if they inflict or attempt to inflict harm on another person, if they are armed with a dangerous weapon or if the incident occurs during nighttime. If the incident doesn't involve any of those criteria, it's classified as second-degree burglary.
