Authorities say a Mitchell man was arrested Monday for attempting to sell methamphetamine fewer than 1,000 feet from Mitchell Middle School.

Josiah Joseph Sinkie, 37, was arrested at about 1:30 p.m. outside of an apartment building on the 900 block of West Eighth Avenue in Mitchell. Police say he was holding a plastic shopping bag that had a container and clothing inside of it.

The container held approximately 5 grams of methamphetamine that was packaged in two small plastic bags and in one vial. There also was a digital scale and several unused small plastic baggies.

Sinke was wanted on three outstanding arrest warrants. He told officers he intended on selling the meth that he was holding.

He has been arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia; violation of a drug free zone; unauthorized possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute; and unauthorized possession of a controlled substance.
