STURGIS -- The South Dakota Department of Public Safety reported that 11 people were injured in nine injury crashes that occurred within a 24-hour period in the first weekend of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

None of those crashes, which took place between 6 a.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. Sunday, resulted in fatalities. Additionally, there were 11 non-injury crashes reported in the Sturgis and the Rapid City area.

More people have been arrested for both felony and misdemeanor drug offenses than were by the same time last year, and law enforcement has issued more citations and warnings than last year.
