Unemployment benefits scam targeting SD residents
PIERRE (AP) — An unemployment insurance benefit scam is targeting South Dakota residents.
South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says the scammer is filing online unemployment benefits with the state's Department of Labor and Regulation using accurate personal information including correct name, social security number and date of birth,
Jackley says it's unknown how the scammer is obtaining the information. He says the state's unemployment system has not been compromised.
The state's Labor Department has identified multiple victims, but says that none of the fictitious claims have been paid.
South Dakota is one of various states that have been targeted by the scam.
