Commission closes year with fairgrounds plan

The last meeting of the 2014 could bring some finality to the long-talked about plans for sports practice equipment to be installed at the Davison County Fairgrounds.

The last meeting of the 2014 could bring some finality to the long-talked about plans for sports practice equipment to be installed at the Davison County Fairgrounds.

The Davison County Commission will discuss the matter during its regular meeting, starting at 9 a.m Tuesday at the Davison County North Offices in Mitchell.

During last week's meeting, the commissioners received a copy of the proposed facility use agreement between the county and the user, Avera Queen of Peace, from Deputy State's Attorney Jim Taylor. Commission Chairman John Claggett indicated during the meeting that he wanted to bring the subject to a conclusion soon, so that Avera Queen of Peace could start with their upgrades. The facility use agreement says that Avera Queen of Peace would pay the county $1,000 per month for each month they are using the fairgrounds and would include the installation of a permanent tennis surface and installation of netting for indoor baseball, softball and tennis.

The commissioners canceled their Dec. 30 meeting earlier this month, meaning Tuesday's meeting is the last before the new year.

The following is the commissioners' agenda:
