City offers free tire recycling program

The city of Mitchell's regional landfill and the South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources are working together to offer free tire recycling to residents of Davison County.

The city of Mitchell's regional landfill and the South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources are working together to offer free tire recycling to residents of Davison County.

The program will run over the course of the next five weeks, starting Monday and ending on July 23.

The program's goal is to prevent or slow the spread of the Zika virus. Tires are a breeding area for the mosquito which can spread the virus. The landfill is the only collection site at this time; however, other sites may become available in the future.

Please check www.cityofmitchell.org for collection site updates. No tires from retailers or businesses will be accepted as part of this plan.

The landfill hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. It is also open until 7 p.m. on Tuesdays.
