For hundreds of years, Santa has sent elves to see if children have been naughty or nice.
Now, he has decided to send scouts into businesses.
Poppy, the Corn Cob Scout, arrived Thanksgiving Day, according to a press release from the Mitchell Area Chamber of Commerce.
"You never know where he might pop up, so you'll have to keep a lookout," the release, written in rhyme, states.
Every few days, Poppy will make his appearance on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. People who can determine what business Poppy is in and find him can enter their name in a daily drawing, and will receive a $25 gift certificate. Anyone can participate.

Everyone who enters in each of the daily drawings will have a chance to win the Grand Prize, $250 in Mitchell Monday. The drawing will be on Dec. 22.
"Santa will be happy everyone is shopping local so business owners all around town this holiday season will be thankful," the release says.
