CHESTER (AP) - Residents of three neighborhoods on the north side of Brant Lake in Lake County have voted to become South Dakota's newest municipality.

The Madison Daily Leader reports that Tuesday's vote was 61-9 in favor of the move.

The area currently is overseen by a township board. Dave Philips says he and other organizers will start working on plans to hold an election for a five-person council to govern the community, giving residents more direct involvement with issues such as road maintenance.
