Barbara Jean England, 70, Winner, formerly of White River, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at Winner Regional Healthcare Center Long Term Care Facility, Winner.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Community Events Center, White River. Burial will be in White River Cemetery, White River. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Mason Funeral Home, Winner.
She was born on Oct. 9, 1938, in Murdo to Herbert and Emma (Karlin) Waack.
She grew up on the family farm near Norris and attended country school at Kaufman School through the eighth grade. She graduated as valedictorian of the Class of 1956 of White River High School.
She was employed at the Mellette County ASC office following her graduation.

On March 30, 1959, she married Ted England.
They lived in Presho for the first years of their marriage, later moving to the England home place northwest of White River, and eventually to their own home in the same area.
They later moved into White River, and after her health failed, she lived in a nursing home for the last five years.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and in 1981 she joined the Catholic church.
She is survived by her mother, Winner; three sisters: Dorothy Piper and Mildred Mechaley, both of Winner; and Linda Markworth and husband Alfred, Corder, Mo.; and three sisters-in-law: Florence Judge and husband John, St. Paul, Minn.; Ina England, Presho; and Joyce England, White River.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2008, her father, four brothers-in-law: Ed Piper, Joe Mechaley, and Curt and George England; and a sister-in-law, Doris Guthrie and husband Don.
