This special event will celebrate Avera Cancer Institute Mitchell's 15th anniversary and the installation of a new linear accelerator. In addition, the event is a chance for the public to meet cancer care staff, including the area's newest medical oncologist, Dr. Kathleen Naegele.

Avera Cancer Institute Mitchell recently installed a new, fully digital Elekta Infinity linear accelerator for radiation oncology care. The machine offers enhanced imaging for greater precision, and versatile capability for a full range of radiation treatments.

Naegele recently came to Mitchell from Kingman, Ariz. She is originally from the Chicago area and completed her hematology/oncology fellowship and internal medicine residency at Midwestern University in Chicago. She joins other specialists at Avera Cancer Institute Mitchell including Stephen Dick, Radiation Oncologist, and Anwarul Haq, Medical Oncologist/Hematologist.

Avera Cancer Institute Mitchell is accredited by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. Its 10,000-square-foot facility adjoins Avera Queen of Peace Hospital and serves patients within a 19-county region, allowing patients and their families to stay closer to home during treatment for cancer. As a regional center of the Avera Cancer Institute, the Mitchell location offers patients access to the full cancer care resources of the Avera system.
