ALEXANDRIA-An Alexandria family was displaced following a house fire on Thursday night.
At approximately 8 p.m., the Alexandria Fire Department responded to a report of a fire on Fifth Street in Alexandria.
The blaze started in the home's kitchen, said Hanson County Emergency Manager Kevin Kayser. He said two children were home at the time, apparently cooking french fries in the oven, which Kayser said could have sparked the fire.
The children called authorities and exited the home uninjured.
Kayser said there was extensive damage in the kitchen, including charred sheetrock, and, due to smoke damage, the family is unable to remain in the home. The home is owned by Nancy Deppe, Kayser said.
