RAPID CITY — One person died and another person was injured Thursday in a one-vehicle crash east of Rapid City.
According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado K1500 pickup truck was westbound on South Dakota Highway 44 when the driver failed to negotiated a right turn. The vehicle went across the centerline, into a ditch and rolled.
The crash occurred at about 6 p.m. near mile marker 92, about 45 miles east of Rapid City.
Both vehicle occupants were not wearing seat belts and both were thrown from the pickup. A 40-year-old female was pronounced dead at the scene. A 22-year-old male sustained serious non-life threatening injuries. He was transferred to a Rapid City hospital.
Names of the two people involved are not being released at this time pending the notification of family members.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol, a part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, is investigating the crash.
