HOT SPRINGS — The South Dakota Highway Patrol has released the name of a victim killed Saturday night in a crash in Fall River County.

Deanna Elmquist, 50, of Hot Springs, was killed after a deer strike threw her from her motorcycle and on to the roadway.

Authorities say Elmquist was driving her motorcycle southbound on SD 79 near Hot Springs when she hit a deer that had run into her lane. She was thrown from her motorcycle into the into her lane of traffic and struck by another vehicle.

Police say the vehicle that struck Elmquist could not avoid hitting her.

Elmquist was pronounced dead at the scene. She was not wearing a helmet.

No charges are pending against the second driver.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
