HARRISBURG — An Alaskan man was identified Thursday as the pedestrian who was struck and killed near Harrisburg over the weekend.
Bret Butcher, 24, of Anchorage, Alaska, was walking south in the northbound lanes of traffic on SD 115 just west of Harrisburg on Saturday night when he was struck by a northbound vehicle.
Authorities say he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle, a 39-year-old woman from Sioux Falls, was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the crash.
No charges are pending against the driver.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
