MARTIN — One person was killed Saturday in a two-vehicle crash near Martin.

According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, a 2009 Smart Fortwo was westbound on U.S. Highway 18 when it crossed the center line and collided with an eastbound 2018 Freightliner semi truck.

The crash occurred at about 5:45 p.m. near mile marker 135.5, about 13 miles west of Martin.

The 69-year-old male driver of the Smart Fortwo was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The 56-year-old male truck driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
