A pedestrian who was on Interstate 90 in Mitchell city limits suffered life-threatening injuries Thursday when the person was struck by a vehicle.

The driver of the westbound 2015 Subaru Impreza Sport is not facing charges from the crash and was wearing her seat belt. No information about the pedestrian, including the person's age, gender or residency has been confirmed by officials at this time.

The South Dakota Department of Public Safety said the crash occurred at 12:52 p.m. Officials say the pedestrian came onto the interstate from the south side of the bridge, next to the guard rail, and was walking or running on I-90. The vehicle tried to swerve to miss the person, who was hit by the passenger side of the Subaru.

The pedestrian was transported via ambulance to the Mitchell hospital and flown to Sioux Falls. South Dakota's Highway Patrol is investigating.
