ETHAN — Three people were injured Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle crash a half-mile west of Ethan.
According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, a 1999 Chevrolet Malibu was westbound on South Dakota Highway 42 at about 7:24 a.m. when it blew out the front passenger side tire and pulled over to the north shoulder of the road. A 2007 GMC Yukon, also westbound on Highway 42, slid on ice and rear-ended the Malibu, forcing both vehicles into the north ditch.
The driver of the Malibu, a 16-year-old female, and two passengers, a 13-year-old female and a 7-year-old male, received minor injuries in the collision. They were transported by ambulance at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell.
The driver of the Yukon, Tyalee J. Riggs, 24, of Ethan, was uninjured and was wearing a seat belt. She was the only occupant of the Yukon. Charges are pending against Riggs.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol investigated the crash.
