EMERY -- An Emery woman sustained minor injuries Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash between Alexandria and Emery.

Valerie Westrum, 70, was transported to the hospital in Mitchell following the crash, according to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.

At 1:55 p.m. Friday, Westrum, driving a 2014 Hyundai Elantra, and a 2004 Western Star conventional semi trailer driven by 68-year-old Oran Hoffman, of Emery, were both eastbound on S.D. Highway 262. At mile marker 362, the semi slowed down to turn left onto 426th Avenue, and Westrum attempted to pass in the intersection.

The two vehicles collided, and the Hyundai rolled, landing on its tires. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Westrum was wearing a seat belt, and Hoffman's seat belt use is under investigation.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol investigated the crash. Charges are pending against Westrum.
