CORSICA-A semi truck carrying a load of pigs tipped over Monday afternoon in Douglas County, resulting in the closure of a state highway.

According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, the one-vehicle crash occurred at 2:20 p.m. on South Dakota Highway 44 about 5 miles southwest of Corsica. Jake Jesser, 35, of Twin Falls, Idaho, was driving a 2016 Peterbilt 579 semi traveling westbound on State Highway 44 when the vehicle entered the north ditch. The driver overcorrected and the vehicle tipped over.

The highway was temporarily closed to load off livestock from the truck and to get the semi back on its wheels.

Jesser was wearing a seat belt. Charges are pending against him in the incident.
