STURGIS -- Four people were injured in three injury crashes in and around Sturgis Thursday and early Friday morning.
As of 6 a.m. Friday, a total of 42 injury crashes were recorded during this year's motorcycle rally, down from 46 by the same point last year. As the event enters its final weekend, there had also been fewer non-injury and fatal crashes than there were last year, according to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
None of the people injured in crashes during the 24-hour period ending 6 a.m. Friday were wearing helmets when they crashed.
While crash numbers were down as of Friday morning, the numbers of drug and DUI arrests (398 total), citations (1,028) and warnings (3,111) in Sturgis and the Rapid City district all remained higher than last year.
