HUMBOLDT—The South Dakota Department of Public Safety on Tuesday identified the Madison man killed Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash seven miles north of Humboldt.

Michael McKee, 45, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Thomas Wolles, the 60-year-old driver from Colton who was driving the other vehicle involved, sustained serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred at 2:45 p.m. when McKee was northbound on S.D. Highway 19 in a 2018 Honda Accord and was behind a snowplow and two other vehicles.

McKee attempted to pass the three other drivers by moving into the southbound lane, at which point he collided with Wolles' southbound 2011 Chevy Silverado K3500.

At the time of the crash, McKee was wearing a seat belt, and Wolles was not. Wolles was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate.
