Eastern South Dakota man drowns while ice fishing
LAKE PRESTON, S.D. — One person drowned following an ice fishing accident that occurred Friday morning, Dec. 21, at Lake Whitewood near Lake Preston.
The Kingsbury County Sheriff’s Office said two men were ice fishing at approximately 9:30 a.m. when they both fell into the water. One of the victims drowned and the other was ultimately rescued.
Donald Lockwood, 89, of Brookings, has been identified as the victim.
First responders were called to the scene shortly after 9:30 a.m., according to the Kingsbury County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities were able to rescue one of the individuals and took him to the hospital around 10:30 a.m. The body of the second man was found at about noon.
