Howard woman identified in I-90 fatal crash
A Howard woman has been identified as the person who died Monday morning in a three-vehicle crash east of Mitchell on Interstate 90.
Joan Spader, 76, of Howard, was the driver of the 2014 Buick LaCrosse which had slowed down due to traffic being backed up for another crash just east of Mitchell. Spader was driving westbound when a 2012 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Robert Launderville, 71, of Denison, Iowa, rear-ended the LaCrosse, causing it to strike the 2018 Toyota Corolla being driven by 69-year-old Dennis Evers, of Mitchell.
Spader was pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing a seat belt.
Launderville, who was wearing a seat belt was taken to Avera Queen of Peace Hospital and suffered serious, non-life threatening injuries. Evers was also taken to Avera Queen of Peace and suffered minor injuries, but it is unknown whether he was wearing a seat belt.
The crash occurred at 11:27 a.m. Monday, 4 miles east of Mitchell at mile marker 336 on the interstate. The incident is still under investigation.
