Two teenagers were seriously injured in a single-ATV crash Monday afternoon near Lake Mitchell.

According to Mitchell Police Officer Patrick Marler, a 15-year-old male was driving the ATV at approximately 1:50 p.m. in the ditch of the 3900 block of North Ohlman Street, a mile north of Lakeview Golf Course, when he lost control. The driver and 16-year-old male passenger both suffered serious injuries and were taken by ambulance to Avera Queen of Peace Hospital.

Marler said he was driving on North Ohlman Street when he saw the two minors lying in the ditch near the ATV and responded to the scene of the crash. Upon arriving to the scene, Marler said a witness driving a moped was at the scene of the crash attempting to call 911.

Authorities initially believed the moped driver was involved in the crash, but Marler said Tuesday that was not the case.

Mitchell Fire/EMS and Mitchell police responded to the scene. The investigation is ongoing. Charges are pending for the driver of the ATV.
