YANKTON, S.D. — A 55-year-old Yankton man died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle-vehicle crash Thursday, June 27, in Yankton.
James Schirmacher was driving a 2003 Harley Davidson FLHTI which was hit by a 2013 Honda Civic, driven by Abigail Newman, 16, of Yankton, according to a release from the South Dakota Department of Public Safety. The Honda was making a left turn off South Dakota Highway 50 when it struck the Harley Davidson.
Schirmacher was not wearing a helmet and was transported first to the Yankton hospital then flown to a Sioux Falls hospital where he died Sunday, the release said.
Newman was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was not injured, according to the release. Charges are pending.
