ABERDEEN (AP) - Aberdeen is forming a task force to study the feasibility of a new event center.

City Councilman Clint Rux says an event center hasn't been discussed for 10 years, and he thinks it's time to take another look. He proposed the task force, and the City Council approved it Monday on a 5-2 vote.

Opponents said the council should talk more about the matter before forming a task force.

The American News reports that the 18-member group is to make an initial report to the council by January 2018.
