ABERDEEN (AP) -- A center offering housing for people who are homeless or need temporary shelter is closer to reality in Aberdeen.

The media reports that the city zoning board has approved a zoning exception for the property on Washington Street. It would provide eight beds and two apartments to people who are homeless or need temporary housing for other reasons.

The facility is not considered a halfway house.

The zoning board required that the facility not house people with sexual or violent criminal histories. People will be accepted into the facility on a case-by-case basis,

Journey Church officials submitted the plan because they saw a need for such a facility in Aberdeen. Pastor Devin Hebeisen says the church regularly receives phone calls asking for housing assistance.
