Seven Mitchell High School students qualified for the 2015 National FFA Convention after placing first this week at the State FFA Leadership Contest in Pierre.

Adviser Jeff Hoffman said his students put in a tremendous effort in preparing and competing at state, held Monday and Tuesday.

The students who qualified for nationals are Kaley Nolz, Ally Goldammer, Hailey Axemaker, Lily Hoffman, Johnna Jorgensen, Shelby Riggs and Nick Johnson.

Mitchell's marketing plan and agricultural sales teams from MHS won their contests. The marketing plan team - comprised of Nolz, Goldammer and Axemaker - had to develop and present a marketing plan of a local business. They were judged on both their written plan and oral presentation.

Agricultural sales team members include Lily Hoffman, Jorgensen, Riggs and Johnson. Hoffman said they were required to know the ins and outs of eight lawn seed products and be ready to sell any one of them one-on-one. Team members were tested on their individual sales knowledge as well as on their team presentation.

The national competition will be held in October 2015 in Louisville, Ky.

"It's a long way away, but we certainly want to get them some recognition for their efforts," Hoffman said.

Hoffman also noted other participants who placed at state: Axemaker, third in job interview; Natalie Buckley, second in creed contest; Bailey Kahler, fourth in creed contest; Riggs, fourth in prepared public speaking.
