MOUNT VERNON-A Mount Vernon garage was declared a total loss after a fire Sunday afternoon.
The fire was reported at about 1:30 p.m., and the detached, single-stall garage, located in the 400 block of West Third Avenue, was completely engulfed in flames by the time the Mount Vernon Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire report 10 minutes later.
No one was inside the garage when the fire began, and there were no injuries. Though the garage was the only structure on fire, vinyl siding on a house and another nearby garage was melted.
The fire department put out the fire in about 10 minutes and remained at the scene for about an hour and a half. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
