On the eve of the 2018 South Dakota legislative session, one Mitchell candidate announced his candidacy for South Dakota's House of Representatives.

In a press release issued Monday evening, Republican Lance Koth announced his candidacy to represent District 20, which is made up of Davison, Aurora and Jerauld counties. Koth recently retired from a 40-year banking career, including 18 years as president at First Dakota National Bank in Mitchell.

The district's current representatives are Republicans Tona Rozum and Lance Carson, both of Mitchell. Rozum is term-limited, however, and cannot run for re-election to the House in 2018.

"Having spent my entire adult life in the people business I have learned to appreciate the good that can come from serving others," Koth said in a press release. "My desire is to serve the great people of District 20 by providing leadership in Pierre."
