MOUNT VERNON — One person sustained serious non-life threatening injuries in a one-vehicle rollover Sunday near Mount Vernon.

At approximately 7:32 p.m., Jayme Schmidt, a 40-year-old woman from Wessington Springs, was driving a 2004 Dodge Durango westbound on Interstate 90, two miles west of Mount Vernon, when the left rear tire on the vehicle blew out.

Schmidt was unable to control the vehicle and left the roadway, according to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety. The vehicle entered the ditch, traveled through the guardrail and rolled several times.

Schmidt was transported to a Mitchell hospital. The two passengers in the vehicle, a 16-year-old and a 11-year-old, both females, sustained minor injuries. Charges are pending against Schmidt. The driver and the two passengers were wearing seat belts.
