Kyle woman sentenced for murder in 2-year-old boy's death
RAPID CITY (AP) — A Kyle woman has been sentenced to 40 years in federal prison for killing a 2-year-old boy she was raising in 2015.
Forty-four-year-old Lori Wisecarver earlier pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of Jayden Locke. The Rapid City Journal reports she admitted repeatedly abusing the child, largely because of potty-training issues.
U.S District Judge Jeffrey Viken on Friday granted the prosecutor's request for a 40-year sentence.
Wisecarver was a distant relative of the boy. She became his guardian after his biological mother lost custody because of drug addiction.
Wisecarver's husband, Michael Wisecarver, was accused of failing to report the abuse. He pleaded guilty to hiding a felony and was sentenced in June to the 17 months he had already served behind bars.
