LOWER BRULE — A 4-year-old boy was killed and two adults were injured Sunday night in a one-vehicle crash in southeastern Hughes County.
Charges are pending against the 24-year-old female driver, the South Dakota Department of Public Safety announced Monday.
At 8:45 p.m., the driver, 4-year-old and a 19-year-old male passenger were northbound in a 2000 Nissan Maxima on West Bend Road, 38 miles east of Pierre and near the section of the Missouri River that divides Hughes and Lyman counties.
The vehicle left the road and entered the east ditch, ejecting two of the occupants. None of the three people involved were wearing seat belts when the crash occurred.
The 4-year-old was pronounced dead at a Pierre hospital. The driver and other passenger sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
