WINNER -- A Tripp County jury convicted a Winner man Tuesday of kidnapping and rape charges stemming from a 2000 incident.

Gabriel Medicine Eagle Jr., 34, was convicted of rape in the second degree, rape in the third degree, sexual contact with a child younger than 16 and kidnapping.

Each is a felony charge with penitentiary sentences ranging from 15 years to 50 years.

The conviction stems from the allegation that Medicine Eagle kidnapped and raped a juvenile in the Winner area in September 2000.

The Division of Criminal Investigation and the Tripp County Sheriff's Office investigated the case. The state Attorney General's Office prosecuted it. Sentencing is set for January in Tripp County.
