Dr. Beverly Kennon Peter, 101, Howard, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, at Good Samaritan Society, Howard.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church, Tyndall, with the Revs. Gordon Higgins and David Knecht officiating. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the church. A private inurnment, followed by a memorial service, will be at a later date in Beckley, W.Va.
Arrangements are under the direction of Goglin Funeral Home, Tyndall.
He was born in Princeton, W.Va., to Beverly Stanard and Nora Lee (Thorn) Peter.
He attended grade school in Princeton and completed his high school education in Washington, D.C.
He then attended Bridgewater College in Virginia and completed medical school at the University of Virginia.
On Feb. 8, 1941, he married Mary Keyes Shanklin at the Beckley Presbyterian Church.
He was a member of the church and served on the session for many years.
He was an eye, ear, nose and throat doctor on the medical staff of Beckley Hospital from 1935 until he retired in 1974.
In 2004, he moved to Yankton into Majestic Bluffs Independent Living Center. He moved to Good Samaritan Society, Howard, in July 2008.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary-Lee Lint and husband Phil, Howard; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and an infant daughter, Lelia Maude Peter.
