A 36-year-old Mitchell man died Tuesday from a car crash that occurred on Oct. 7 northwest of Ethan.
Matthew Hopkins was the driver in the one-vehicle crash, according to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety. He was driving a 2009 Honda Civic southbound on South Dakota Highway 37 when the vehicle went off the road and into the west ditch. It eventually hit a power pole, officials said.
Public Safety said Hopkins was not wearing a seat belt during the crash, which occurred at 7:11 a.m. He suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a Sioux Falls hospital, where he died Tuesday. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
