SIOUX FALLS - A 25-year-old woman died Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 229 in Sioux Falls.

Authorities said the crash occurred at 4:06 p.m. between Benson Road and Rice Street when a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by the 25-year-old woman, was northbound on I-229. It veered to the left, crossed the median and struck a southbound 2010 Buick Lucerne, driven by a 65-year-old woman. She had her seat belt on, officials said.

The name of the person has not been released, pending notification of family. The South Dakota Department of Public Safety said the woman died at the scene, and she was not wearing her seat belt. The other person involved in the crash had to be extracted from the other vehicle and sustained serious, non-life threatening injuries.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating.
