Mitchell High School marching band does well at Festival of Bands

Band took sixth place overall.

The Mitchell High School Marching Band recently earned several accolades at the 34th annual Festival of Bands in Sioux Falls at Howard Wood Stadium.

Festival of Bands is one of the largest marching band competitions in the Midwest, with over 25 bands competing from a four-state area.

The band competed in the 3A class and received 2nd place in the daytime preliminary performance. The band also made open class finals which were the top ten scores from all classes. The band placed 6th overall placing only behind Minnesota and Iowa bands and one other South Dakota school - Brandon Valley.

The band will finish its competition season next weekend at the Dutchmen Field Championships in Orange City, Iowa.
