PIERRE - Music legends Joan Jett and the Blackhearts will appear on the Mount Rushmore American Pride float in the 87th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
“We’re excited to have such a well-known artist perform on our float this year. Joan Jett is a legend in rock music, especially among the generation of visitors South Dakota is looking to attract,” said South Dakota Department of Tourism Secretary Jim Hagen.
This is the Department of Tourism’s fourth year of appearing on a float in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The goal of the promotional campaign is to drive new and repeat visitors to South Dakota, in addition to creating brand awareness. It is estimated that more than 3.5 million spectators on the streets of New York City and more than 50 million television viewers nationwide will watch the parade.
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts aboard the American Pride float will make their national appearance on NBC-TV on Thursday, Nov. 28, between 9 a.m. and noon in all time zones.
