Mount Vernon School District 17-3 Board of Education Minutes May 9, 2022 The regular meeting of the Mount Vernon School District 17-3 Board of Education was held on Monday, May 9, 2022, in the Mount Vernon School at 6:00 p.m. in the Afterschool Program room. Dale Larsch, Board Chairman, called the meeting to order with the following present: Craig Pickart, Jeff Miiller, Mike Deinert and Justin Klumb. Also present were Superintendent/PK-5 Principal Clint Nelson, Eric Denning-Principal 6-12, and Allison Sandland- Business Manager. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Open forum. No Discussion All motions are to be considered unanimous unless otherwise stated. Craig Pickart made a motion to amend tonights agenda with the addition of : Student Issue (1-25-2-2) to the agenda during executive session. Mike Deinert seconded. 5-22-01 Mike Deinert made a motion to approve the amended agenda for the May 9th, 2022 meeting. Justin Klumb seconded. Motion 05-22-02 Justin Klumb made a motion to approve the following consent agenda items: Minutes of the April 11, 2022 meeting, and acknowledge minutes of Core and Mid Central meetings. Motion 05-22-05 A discussion was held on a disclosure of conflict of interest (SDCL 3-23-6) Clint Nelson, Supt., and PK-5 Principal, reported on the following topics: Titan Bootcamp schedule and STEM programs that will be introduced, EOC application and Elementary activities. Eric Denning, Principal-Grades 6-12/Athletic Director, reported on the following topics: Academic Awards, Community Service Day accomplishments, and an update on senior projects. The 1st reading of the following policies was discussed: IA, IC, and IF. Jeff Miiller made a motion to approve the 2nd reading of the following policies: GCN and GDN. Justin Klumb seconded. Motion 05-22-06 Craig Pickart made a motion to approve the calendar for the 22-23 school year. Mike Deinert seconded. 05-22-07 Justin Klumb made a motion to approve Special education ESY services that will be provided throughout the summer. Craig Pickart seconded. 05-22-08 Mike Deinert made a motion to vote for Dr Jeff Danielsen of Watertown, as the Division II Representative of the SDHSAA. Justin Klumb seconded. 05-22-09 Craig Pickart made a motion to vote Yes on SDHSAA Amendment No. 1. Jeff Miiller seconded. 05-22-10 Justin Klumb made a motion to vote Yes on SDHSAA Amendment No. 2. Justin Klumb seconded. 05-22-16 A discussion was held on the After School Program regarding the attendance numbers and need of the program. A discussion was held about the Preschool program and the benefit of extending the day. Craig Pickart made a motion to accept the resignation of Dana Schuldt as Prom advisor and would like to thank her for the years dedicated to helping the students produce successful events. Justin Klumb seconded. 05-22-17 Justin Klumb made a motion to accept contracts for the 22-23 school year. Jeff Miiller seconded. 05-22-18 Craig Pickart made a motion to approve the open enrollment 22-23-01 request for 22-23 school year. Mike Deinert seconded. 05-22-19 Jeff Miiller made a motion to approve the Master Contract for 22-23 school year. Mike Deinert seconded. 05-22-20 Craig Pickart made a motion to accept Eric Denning’s bid for mowing the school property in 2022. Justin Klumb seconded. 05-22-21 A discussion was held about adding a pole vault pit to the track complex. Craig Pickart made a motion to purchase a used pole vault pit, that would provide the athletes with a place to practice and to determine the amount of interest in the event before making permanent changes to the complex. Mike Deinert seconded. 05-22-22 A discussion was held on the preliminary budget for 22-23. Dale Larsch made a motion to approve the listed items as disposable surplus. These items are not in working order and hold no value. Craig Pickart seconded. 05-22-24 The Board of Education would like to recognize the staff of the Mt Vernon School District for their hard work and dedication to making this a very successful school year. Mike Deinert made a motion to enter Executive Session (SDCL 1-25-2-(1)) Personnel matter and Student Issue (1-25-2-(2))at 7:45pm. Justin Klumb seconded. 05-22-25 Board Chair Dale Larsch declared the Board out of executive session at 8:53pm. Action item resulting from Executive session: Mike Deinert made a motion to approve correction to employee contract. Craig Pickart seconded. 05-22-26 The next regular board meeting will be held on Wednesday June 15, 2022 at 6pm in the After School Program room.
