MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING MITCHELL SCHOOL DISTRICT 17-2 March 14, 2023 The special meeting of the Board of Education was called to order by President Deb Olson at 9:00 AM at the Technical Center on the Campus of Mitchell Tech College at 1800 East Spruce Street in Mitchell South Dakota, Davison County. Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Roll call of members present: Deb Olson, Brittni Flood, Matthew Christiansen, Terry Aslesen, and Shawn Ruml. Absent: None. Others present: Steve Culhane, Business Manager. Motion #355241 Motion by Ruml, seconded by Christiansen to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried. Motion #355242 Motion by Aslesen, seconded by Flood to move into executive session at 9:01 am for the purpose of discussing the qualifications, competence, performance, character or fitness of any public officer or employee or prospective public officer of employee as per SDCL 1-25-2.(1). For the purpose of conducting the interviews for the Superintendent of Schools position. Motion carried. President Olson declared that executive session was over and the board was back in open session at 4:09 PM. Motion #355243 Motion by Flood, seconded by Ruml to hire Dr. Joe Childs as the Superintendent of Schools for the Mitchell School District. It will be a two year contract with an annual salary of $175,000 starting July 1, 2023. Motion carried Since there was no further business brought forward to the School Board, President Olson declared the meeting adjourned at 4:11 pm.
