WITTEN -- The rollover of a semi truck in rural Tripp County resulted in cases of beer being strewn in a highway ditch.
The crash occurred at 12:35 a.m. Wednesday morning on State Highway 44 in Witten. A male driver, age 50, was driving a 2020 Freightliner semi truck with a trailer loaded with beer going east on Highway 44 when the driver missed a curve and entered the ditch. The semi and trailer flipped onto its passenger side. Images shared by the South Dakota Highway Patrol showed the trailer had cracked open after the crash, and hundreds of cases of Budweiser and Bud Light beer were dumped into the ditch.
The male driver, 50, was not identified, but was reported to have minor injuries and was taken to the Winner hospital. He was wearing a seat belt.
The South Dakota Department of Public Safety said that the Tripp County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash, but no charges are pending.
Witten is located 15 miles northwest of Winner and 140 miles west of Mitchell.
