SIOUX FALLS — Eighth-grader Adelyn Prunty provided a highlight for the Mitchell cross country teams at the highly competitive Augustana Twilight cross country meet Friday at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls.

Prunty finished second in the girls 4K junior varsity race, finishing in a time of 16 minutes, 54.27 seconds. That was second only to junior Tierney Wolfgram, of Woodbury (Minn.), who won the race in 13:43.31. Prunty was 18th overall in the same race a year ago.

In the varsity races, Ethan/Parkston sophomore Lindsey Roth was the area’s top finisher among the girls, taking 20th in a field of 196 runners in 19:12.27. Menno’s Morgan Edelman was 72nd in the field, finishing in 20:37.25, and Freeman Academy/Marion freshman Jada Koerner also finished in the top-100 with a time of 21:04.66, good for 92nd overall. Sophomore Alea Hardie, of Sioux Falls O’Gorman, claimed the girls high school individual title in 17:50.57, while Fremont (Neb.) won the girls team title.

Freeman Academy/Marion’s Titus Roesler was the top boys area finisher, taking 85th in a time of 17:34.97. Mitchell’s Lucas Moller was 104th (17:49.19), and Joseph Grassmid, of Menno, was 107th in 17:52.09. Mitchell Christian’s Max Reynen was 145th overall (18:22.18). Sioux Falls Lincoln senior Andrew Lauer won the boys individual title in 15:18.29, helping the Patriots to the overall boys team title.

On the college side, in the men’s four-mile run, Wyatt Baldauf led Dakota Wesleyan with a time of 21:25.83, which was 137th in the field of 321 runners. Justin Sorensen was 175th (21:58.08), and Plankinton native Devin Rihanek was 192nd (22:15.61). As a team, DWU was 23rd out of 26 schools. Nebraska won the men’s team title, while Cloud County Community College freshman Dais Malebana won the individual title (18:54.46).

In the women’s 5K run, Sami Shoultz was Dakota Wesleyan’s top finisher in 21:20.37, finishing 184th in the field. McKenna Rogers was 224th (21:53.58), while Mitchell native Annika Vermeulen was 230th (22:03.72) in a field of 306 runners. DWU finished 24th out of 25 participating teams. South Dakota was the team champion, led by individual champion Abby Ripperda (16:47.07).

Mitchell’s cross country teams are back on the course on Thursday at Aberdeen Central’s invitational at Lee Park Golf Course in Aberdeen. DWU’s runners will be at the Dakota State University Invitational on Sept. 14 at the Madison Country Club.
