MOUNT VERNON -- The South Dakota Department of Public Safety identified the victim of Tuesday's one-vehicle fatal crash near Mount Vernon.

Michael Johnson, 59, was driving a 2018 Nissan Frontier eastbound on 252nd Street (or Cemetery Road) when he failed to negotiate a curve near the intersection of 399th Avenue. The vehicle left the roadway, rolled, and landed in a ditch. Johnson was thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A death notice that ran in The Daily Republic stated Johnson is from Mitchell. Authorities with the Department of Public Safety said Johnson is from Mount Vernon. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
