LAKE ANDES -- A Lake Andes man charged in July for threatening people with a machete will not serve jail time, a Charles Mix County court ruled on Aug. 20.

On that date, 20-year-old Beau Greger pleaded guilty to simple assault and was given a suspended 180-day jail sentence. He was ordered to pay $486.50 in fines, court costs and restitution and to not have contact with the victim.

Greger was arrested in connection with an incident that took place in Wagner on the morning of July 23. He reportedly told police that he had been in an altercation with a woman, who allegedly said Greger had pushed her, hit her in the back, thrown a bottle of antifreeze at her car and threatened her family member with the machete.

A charge of aggavated assault was dismissed when Greger pleaded guilty to simple assault.
