Mitchell High School's Friend de Coup kicked off the 2021 season on a positive note, as the show choir club took home the Grand Champion award on Saturday in Sioux Falls.

Friend de Coup also claimed the Best Band and Choreography awards during the Sioux Falls Washington Best of Show competition that saw a little over 20 schools perform over the weekend.

Mitchell Middle School’s show choir, Maximum Velocity, also performed their way to the top spot over the weekend, earning the Grand Champion award during the Sioux Falls Washington Best of Show competition. The Mitchell Middle School Exclamation Choir took home fifth place, along with earning the Best Closer award. The middle school show choir clubs competed on Friday evening.

Heading into the recent Sioux Falls competition, Friend de Coup also claimed the Grand Champion award during the Live Week 1 Virtual competition, which saw schools from across the nation compete. Friend de Coup’s performance during the Live Week 1 Virtual competition also earned them Best Vocals, Best Choreography and Best Show Design awards.

The Friend de Coup will be back in action on Saturday in Vermillion, where they will compete in the Rhythm in Red competition.
