Mitchell-area music lovers should prepare for a "romping" musical journey aboard the "Arctic Flyer."

That's the advice from the Wizards of Winter's musical director and keyboardist Scott Kelly. Kelly and the entire gang from the holiday rock opera group will perform at 5 p.m. Sunday at The World's Only Corn Palace.

"("The Arctic Flyer") will take you inside a snow globe in search of the true meaning of Christmas," Kelly said of the two and a half hour show. "The story will cover the broad array of emotions that people encounter during the holiday season, from the joyous to the melancholy. We travel back through time to the first Christmas and even stop at the North Pole along the way."

"The Arctic Flyer" is one of many songs from The Wizards of Winter, a 12-member ensemble that focuses on classical and progressive rock music with a holiday twist. The unique group includes members of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Rainbow, the Alice Cooper Band and the Ted Nugent Band.

The stop in Mitchell will be the group's first visit to South Dakota — and anything west of Wisconsin — according to Kelly, who added the band is excited for the trip.

The band was formed in 2010 and grew within the year. Now, seven years later, the band has two full-length albums of original material and a third one scheduled for release in 2018.

Based in the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, the group's stop in Mitchell is part of a 14-city tour. And they are eager to perform in the Corn Palace, Kelly said.

"We greatly look forward to meeting everyone and promise to deliver a show that they won't soon forget," Kelly said.

Tickets for the Wizards of Winter can be purchased ahead for $20 or on the day for $25. Tickets are available at the Corn Palace box office, or by calling 605-995-8430.
