South Dakota's top 1 percent of graduating seniors honored for academic excellence
“We want you to achieve the highest level of your dreams,” Gov. Kristi Noem told the top seniors
PIERRE, S.D. — The top academic achievers in the high school graduating class of 2022 in South Dakota were recognized recently during the annual governor’s Academic Excellence Recognition event.
Gov. Kristi Noem and the Associated School Boards of South Dakota honored students on Monday, May 9, with students identified as the top 1 percent of their senior class at the state’s public, private and tribal high schools. Students were designated by their high school for recognition and honorees received a certificate, a South Dakota pin and the opportunity to have a picture taken with the governor.
“I am just so proud of you and all your academic accomplishments. I think it’s phenomenal the way you’ve applied yourself,” Gov. Noem shared with students during the event, adding the state is “committed to you and what you’d like to do in your future.”
“We want you to achieve the highest level of your dreams,” she added.
ASBSD President Eric Stroeder added the hope is for these special students to share their talents with the people of South Dakota in the future.
“Many of us hope you will stay in South Dakota and become the next generation of leaders for our state,” Stroeder said. “We need your talents and skills. We need your ideas and creativity. We need you to continue to push our great state forward.”
Three students from Mitchell High School were recognized, which included Iris Anderson, Aiden Beckstrom and Isabella Lambert. Mitchell Christian’s Ahnna Cousins was recognized for MCS’ senior class, as well.
