Friend de Coup to kick off season with Up With Show ‘22

Performances to run Dec. 8, 9 and 10 at Performing Arts Center

MITCHELL — The Mitchell High School show choir season is set to kick off Thursday with three nights of performances.

Friend de Coup will host Up With Show at the Mitchell High School Performing Arts Center, with shows scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 8, Friday Dec. 9 and Saturday, Dec. 10.

The three shows will mark the group’s first return to the stage following a successful 2021 season that saw the choir take home several top awards and finishes from events that took them across the country. They received grand champion awards and recognition for many aspects of their performances, including choreography, band and vocals during that season.

Up With Show traditionally serves as the show choir’s first public performances of the year, setting up the season of local showcases and their competition schedule.

Tickets for the three shows went on sale Dec. 6 and can be purchased at the venue box office from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m on Dec. 6 and 7 and from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Dec. 8, 9 and 10. Tickets may be purchased online at by visiting the site and searching for “friend de coup.” Tickets for both the live performances at the Performing Arts Center as well as access to online livestreams to all three nights are available.


Up With Show will also feature guest performances by other local musical groups. Mitchell Middle School’s Maximum Velocity will also take the stage Thursday evening, Oct. 8 and its Exclamation group will perform Friday, Dec. 9. Saturday, Oct. 10 will also feature a performance by the Mitchell Area Children’s Choir.

Friend de Coup has scheduled several home performances for the 2022-23 school year. Following is a list of hometown performances currently on tap:

  • Up With Show — Dec. 8, 9 and 10, 7 p.m.
  • Friend de Coup Community Show — Jan. 14, 7 p.m.
  • Mitchell Show Choir Classic — March 18, all day
  • Cabaret — April 13, 14 and 15, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The competition theme for this year will be revealed at the Friend de Coup Community Show on Jan. 14. All home shows are currently scheduled to be held at the Performing Arts Center.

The show choir is also expected to take part in a variety of competitions outside Mitchell this year. That schedule includes:

  • Omaha (Neb.) Westside Competition of Excellence, Omaha, Neb. — Jan. 28
  • Urbandale Show Choir Invitational, Urbandale, Iowa — Feb. 11
  • Omaha (Neb.) South Classic, Omaha, Neb. — Feb. 18
  • Sioux City East Sing All About It, Sioux City, Iowa — March 4
  • Heart of America, Nashville, Tenn. — March 11
