Friend de Coup scores another first at Omaha show choir competition

Mitchell group takes home grand champion award over the weekend

OMAHA, Nebraska — The Mitchell High School show choir brought home another top award over the weekend.

Friend de Coup won the grand champion award at the 2023 Omaha South Classic show choir competition Friday, Feb. 17 and Saturday, Feb. 18. The local choir beat out 13 other teams to claim the victory. The team also secured a number of secondary recognitions, including best visuals and the people’s choice award.

Logan Culhane was recognized as best soloist.

Following is a rundown of the five top finishers at the competition:

  • Grand Champion - Friend de Coup, Mitchell High School. The team also won best choreography, people’s choice and best soloist.
  • First Runner Up - Titanium, Papillion-La Vista South High School, Papillion, Nebraska. The team also won best costumes.

  • Second Runner Up - Amazing Technicolor Show Choir, Westside High School, Omaha Nebraska. The team also brought home awards for best vocals, best band and best closer.
  • Third Runner Up - Gold, Norris High School, Firth, Nebraska. The team also won best opener and best ballad.
  • Fourth Runner Up - Excel, Elkhorn High School, Elkhorn, Nebraska.
  • Fifth Runner Up - Southwest Effect, Fort Worth Southwest High School, Fort Worth, Texas.

Friend de Coup will next travel to Bishop Heelan Catholic High School in Sioux City, Iowa for the Crusader Classic Saturday, Feb. 25. The Mitchell Middle School show choirs will also compete at Bishop Heelen Friday, Feb. 24.
The group will then head to Sioux City, Iowa to compete in the 2023 Sing All About It event Saturday, March 4. The group is then scheduled to travel to Nashville, Tennessee to compete at the Heart of America competition Saturday, March 11.
